My weekend in Glasgow was brilliant.
The Scottish Youth Theatre were running a Young Writer’s course - seminars and workshops - to help people with scriptwriting. Initially we were just a group of writers, doing cool exercises and trying to realise what we actually wanted to write.
On Saturday though, I got the treat of my life: Working with actors from the company to play out scenes I’d thought of, and completely improvise new ones. In that session, and with other writers, I gained an ending I can’t imagine thinking of alone.
Sunday brought us together with the actors again, doing table-reads and getting the scene on it’s feet. I’ll take a lot away from that.
It was a unique experience, and it doesn’t quite end here. I’ll get online mentoring from the course leaders to help develop my play, and we’ll see where it goes from there!
