If you’re interested, this post is all about the ideas and concept behind my play Boy-friend (which you can read here).
It couldn’t have ended up more different from the original idea, to be honest. My friend, and co-worker at the time Becca (yes, I named Becky for her) told me this story…
She had this friend, who was gay. They’d gone on holiday together to Spain. Near...

In the spirit of my new page (robcurrie.tumblr.com/writing!), I thought I’d write a bit about where the plays came from, inspiration-wise. So I’ll start with The Aging Process.
So here’s me and the gang in a village called Comrie. It’s not far from Dundee, but we all rented a house there for a few days and called it a holiday. Four days and nights of heavy drinking,...

Been making changes, I’ve gotten rid of the seperate Tumblr I had for writing stuff, because I … just couldn’t remember why I’d made it a thing on it’s own! So I’ve added a new page to this blog where you can read a couple of plays I wrote for radio. That’s all I’ve put up at the moment, but I’m gonna add more things, like short stories and...
Having a Skype conversation with my family makes me miss them more than just a phone call.
I generally think my job is pretty boring, but I feel like I want write a little. Just got to thinking about the customers that come in, and how some of them are really nice. I’ve worked there for almost 2 years now and sort of gotten to know the regulars. One lady who always gets a cappucino brought in her holiday photos of New York at Christmas to show me. One guy gave me a book on...

I once wrote a short piece called “Here, mate!” which was about a chav, and was 507 words long. 126 of those were “mate.” Can’t believe I actually thought about reading it in front of people, it’d be a nightmare I think.
In fact … why not …
If you want to read it, click here, mate.

Made a video tonight with my two loves - Jen, and Shakespeare.
I’m doing some writing right now, but my thoughts are deviating from the thing I’m writing, to my writing in general, and I just got the urge to note things down (more for myself than anything else, but publishing it online feels like it’d give me the impetus to improve (and now I can tell I’m in “writing mode,” cos I’d never ever use a word like...

Adventures in Glasgow
I spent three days this week through in Glasgow, taking part in the Young Writers scheme, part 2. It was excellent, and I’m not going to go into a boring amount of detail, but I learned so much. And I’ve made a heap of new friends as well! First though, this:
All three days I was in Glasgow I saw this. Every morning, after getting off the train and heading to the theatre, this. ...
We got a new boiler put in yesterday. Today, this happened.
It turns out the outside rainwater drain pipe is blocked, and unfortunately our boiler’s waste pipe was plumbed into that yesterday. End result: when it started raining today, the rainwater has backed up into our boiler.
We no longer have a single dry towel in the house, and downstairs is out so we can’t even check his...

Don't know what's up with my brain
I’m trying so hard to work on the script that’s my priority at the moment. And it’s coming along, slowly.
But the problem is…
I thought of a beautiful scene planned where an alcoholic vicar tells the story of a fame-obsessed diamond-thief. But it’s not for this script, it’s for another.
I came up with a nice snatch of dialogue that’ll link two scenes...

Really only doing this because I promised Steph I would, but it was kinda fun so maybe I’ll do another one at some point…

My weekend in Glasgow was brilliant.
The Scottish Youth Theatre were running a Young Writer’s course - seminars and workshops - to help people with scriptwriting. Initially we were just a group of writers, doing cool exercises and trying to realise what we actually wanted to write.
On Saturday though, I got the treat of my life: Working with actors from the company to play out scenes...
I’m just back from a weekend with the Scottish Youth Theatre in Glasgow, and I’ve just realised how tired I am. Seriously, it hit me all at once just five minutes ago. So I will write a bit about it (and if there are any good pictures on the camera, share them too) tomorrow. It was a great experience and it’ll be good to get it down!

Hotchpotch open mic night tonight, and this is the story I wrote and performed. It’s a semi-autobiographical tale of stalking…
